About the Deutsche Liszt-Gesellschaft
More than ever Franz Liszt and his personality draw music lovers from the whole world in his spell. His concepts which pointed far into the future and his European thinking did not lose their attraction up to the present.
The Deutsche Liszt-Gesellschaft e.V. Weimar in the special city of Weimar takes the complexity of the phenomenon Liszt seriously. This means:
- The Deutsche Liszt-Gesellschaft connects the work of an artistic with the one of a scientific society and with a circle of buffs and lovers of the music of Liszt and the music of the19th century. It promotes the artistic and scientific dialogue with the work and influence of Franz Liszt and his contemporaries from a current view and music.
- The Deutsche Liszt-Gesellschaft accompanies enthusiastically the safety and extension of the Weimar Liszt collections and the use of the "Altenburg" as the center of a European cultural meeting-point in the way Liszt would have liked it, thus through means of new and the latest music.
- The Deutsche Liszt-Gesellschaft builds bridges between laymen and specialists of different professions, between people and institutions of the European cultural city of Weimar with members and partner institutions all over the world. It is, where their members find contact with other members and non-members as far as their ideas are concerned. The "Weimar Liszt-Days" are the climax and meeting place of the Deutsche Liszt-Gesellschaft annually around the birthday of Liszt on 22 October.
The Deutsche Liszt-Gesellschaft carries out its purpose through its members in the form of artistic and scientific events and publications and through friendly discussions, suggestions and critical opinions regarding the music culture of our time and its future development.
"Weimar Liszt-Days" are the annual climax and meeting place of the Deutsche Liszt-Gesellschaft. Embedded in an exclusive event and concert programmme at the end of October every year (in the time around Liszt's birthday on 22 October), the members meeting discusses and decides the events for the following year. Every three years the "Weimar Liszt-Days" combine with the "Weimar Liszt-Festival" of the University for Music FRANZ LISZT and the International FRANZ LISZT Piano Competition to a meeting of artists, scientists and Liszt friends from all over the world.
Sunday matinees and soirees in the "Liszt-Salon" of the "Altenburg" ranked 150 years ago among the remarkable and also very famous events in Weimar, Europe and the entire educated world. The host Franz Liszt sat at the piano - like decades later in his second Weimar residence, the "Hofgärtnerei" at the entrance to the Ilm park. The "Altenburg" in Jenaer road belongs with city castle and Goethe House Am Frauenplan to the historically most important buildings in Weimar.
Just like in the times of Franz Liszt today young musicians meet in the same floor of the "Altenburg", in the "Liszt-Salon", in which European culture took place that time and enjoy playing his music alongside the most seasoned musicians.
We look forward to your attendance in the "Altenburg" and invite you cordially after the programme to an informal stay in the rooms of the "Liszt-Salon". Members of the Deutsche Liszt-Gesellschaft e.V. Weimar receive to all events of the society reduced or free entrance, the bi-annually "Liszt-Nachrichten" as well as the annual gift of the Deutsche Liszt-Gesellschaft.
